J’étais au tout début de mon étude de sept ans auprès des Ovahimba et d’autres communautés de langue Otjiherero en Namibie et an Angola, quand JBA m’a demandé de contribué une épisode pour la série de La Sept Arté, “Voyage, Voyage”.
Voici que j’ai écrit à l’époque : “Voyager au pays des Ovahimba, c’est remonter dans un temps qui n’existe plus, qui éclaire la voie vers l’Afrique en devenir. Dans les faubourgs d’Opuwo, capitale du Kaokoland, je suis allée vivre au rythme de ce temps Himba. Là-bas, les papayes sont prêtes à être dégustées avant qu’elles ne soient mûres… C’est vrai, j’y étais.”
I was at the very beginning of my seven-year study of the Ovahimba and other Otjiherero-speaking communities in Namibia and Angola, when JBA asked me to contribute an episode to the La Sept Arté series, “Voyage, Voyage”.
Here’s what I wrote at the time: “To travel to the land of the Ovahimba is to go back to a time that no longer exists, one that lights the way to Africa in the making. On the outskirts of Opuwo, the capital of Kaokoland, I went to live to the rhythm of Himba times. There, the papayas are ready to be eaten before they are ripe… It’s true, I was there.”
